First, grab a tissue!

Okay - now hit play.

Hi friend!

Happy end of 2023. (:

This year, more than any other, has felt surreal. The long term vision that we charted out when we first opened is now here. We are officially living it, and it’s even better than we planned! Our first ever 8th graders are applying to high school and about to fly our nest. We have the most accomplished adult team in school history.

At Detroit Prep, the small things are the big things. Community, joy, purpose, taking risks, being ourselves – it all matters so much and without it, I’m starting to believe that no real learning can even happen.

But you did this. You never gave up. And it’s better than we could have ever dreamt of.

So pop that new air freshener in your car, pin this video on your browser, and continue to remind yourselves of what's possible with a big heart, an unshakeable village, and a little bit of risk.

The future smells great, doesn’t it? (Get it?!)

Love,

BIG WINS FOR DETROIT PREP IN 2023!

  • U.S. News named Detroit Prep as #1 elementary school in Detroit!

The U.S. News named Detroit Prep the #1 elementary school in Detroit! We have a pretty expanded definition of student success (Joy matters! Feeling like you belong matters!) with test scores mattering the least to us. So it feels really fun and nice to still be #1 at more conventional measures of success, too! Thank you to our entire crew for such a wonderful moment and memory! This is ALL YOU!

  • WE WERE ANNOUNCED AS YASS PRIZE SEMIFINALISTS!

The Yass Prize is considered the “Pulitzer of Education Innovation”! Thousands of education providers, including a diverse array of schools and community organizations across the country apply each year. A $1 Million cash prize will be awarded to the education provider which best demonstrates the sustainable, transformational, outstanding, and permissionless principles.

  • 4TH GRADE TOOK OVER THE HENRY FORD MUSEUM!

Fourth graders studied Inequalities in America: Perspectives of the American Revolution. Students were invited to spend an afternoon taking over the Henry Ford Museum’s “With Liberty & Justice for All” exhibit. Our crew taught visitors about whose perspectives are missing from the exhibit based on their learning!
